Celebrating Women’s Health Week: Saying Yes to You

At Lumia Care, we believe that good health is the foundation for living life your way. Women’s Health Week (1–5 September 2025) is a beautiful reminder to pause, reflect, and give your wellbeing the attention it deserves.

This year’s theme, “Say yes to you,” is about making space for yourself. It’s about recognising that your health matters and that taking time for yourself is a gift, not a luxury.

Why We Celebrate Women’s Health Week

Women’s Health Week is a chance to highlight all aspects of women’s health — physical, emotional, and mental. It encourages us to tune into how we’re feeling, take notice of our bodies, and give ourselves permission to seek support when needed.

It’s also a celebration of starting conversations — sharing stories, breaking down barriers, and supporting each other to feel strong and confident in our health choices.

Wherever you are in life, this week is about finding small ways to put yourself first and saying yes to your own wellbeing.

Caring for Yourself While You Care for Others

Whether you’re a professional support worker, a family caregiver, or both, you play an important role in the lives of others. But it’s easy to forget to look after yourself.

This week, consider:

  • Am I due for a health check (GP, pap smear, breast screen, blood pressure)?

  • Am I giving myself enough time to rest?

  • Do I have little aches or concerns I’ve been putting aside?

Even the smallest step can make a difference. Try booking that check-up, enjoying a quiet walk, or setting aside time to rest. Remember — you matter too, and your health is just as important as the care you give.

Looking After Your Health as You Age

Caring for your health is important at every stage of life. Women’s Health Week is a lovely chance to pause, reflect, and think about what helps you feel your best.

You might ask yourself:

  • Am I feeling supported in the way I want to live?

  • Do I need to check in with someone about new aches, memory changes, or moods I’ve noticed?

  • Is my current care helping me feel confident and comfortable?

  • Gentle steps to consider:

  • Having a chat with your GP or nurse about any changes

  • Exploring care options that help you stay independent at home

  • Joining a local activity, group, or class for social connection

  • Asking about allied health support, such as physio or dietitians

You deserve care that supports your goals and helps you live life your way.

Living Well with the Right Care Team

Having the right support makes a big difference in your health journey. For women living with disability, Women’s Health Week is a helpful reminder to prioritise your own needs and seek care that feels right for you.

This might mean:

  • Talking with your GP or support coordinator about any concerns

  • Booking screenings and choosing providers who are inclusive and understanding

  • Using your NDIS plan to access therapies, psychology, or health coaching

  • Reflecting on whether your care team makes you feel supported — and remembering it’s okay to explore other options if not

Your health matters, and with the right team beside you, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Saying Yes to You

No matter your stage of life or circumstances, Women’s Health Week is about saying yes to you. Whether it’s booking a check-up, enjoying a walk, or simply taking a quiet moment for yourself — every step counts. Your health is worth celebrating, today and always.
