What is IV Medication Administration?
IV medication therapy involves delivering medication directly into the bloodstream through a vein. This method is used for treating infections that require higher doses or extended courses of antibiotics. By providing IV therapy at home, we ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and continuous treatment without the inconvenience of a hospital admission.
Who Can Receive IV Medication at Home?
To qualify for IV medication therapy in the community, patients generally need to:
✔ Be at low risk of complications when receiving IV antibiotics outside of a hospital
✔ Have a valid prescription and medication authority from their treating doctor
✔ Arrange for the supply of prescribed antibiotics through a community pharmacy
✔ Have a patent intravenous access device, such as a peripheral vascular access device (VAD), peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line, or an infusaport (access not always required)
✔ Be able to coordinate appointments independently or with the support of a carer

How We Provide IV Medication Care
Our experienced Registered Nurses can administer antibiotics via bolus injections or infusions, with flexible scheduling to suit patient needs. For long-term therapy, we may also use Elastomeric Pumps to support mobility and independence.
