What is IV Medication Administration?
IV medication therapy involves delivering medication directly into the bloodstream through a vein. This method is used for treating infections that require higher doses or extended courses of antibiotics. By providing IV therapy at home, we ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and continuous treatment without the inconvenience of a hospital admission.
Who this service may help
IV medication at home may be suitable for people who are well enough to be cared for at home but still need medication through an IV line.
This service may help people who:
✔ are medically stable and suitable to receive IV treatment outside hospital
✔ have a current prescription and treatment plan from their doctor or hospital team
✔ can access the prescribed medication through a pharmacy or hospital pathway
✔ have suitable IV access, such as a cannula or PICC line, if needed
✔ can attend scheduled nurse visits, either independently or with help from a carer or family member
