Keeping children and young people safe

At Lumia Care, we want every child and young person to feel safe, respected and heard.

This page is for children and young people under 18 who Lumia Care helps or cares for. It is also for parents, carers, families and other people who support them.

If something makes you feel worried, uncomfortable or unsafe, you can tell us.

We will listen to you and help you.

You have the right to feel safe

When Lumia Care helps or cares for you, you have the right to:

  • feel safe

  • be treated with respect

  • be listened to

  • have a say

  • ask questions

  • understand what is happening

  • tell someone if something doesn't feel right.

You can tell us if:

  • someone hurts you

  • someone makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable

  • you don't like how someone treats you or talks to you

  • something happens while Lumia Care is helping you that worries you

  • you are worried about another child or young person

  • you are unhappy with the help or care you receive.

If you are worried about something, you can tell us. You don't need to know what to call it.

You can ask someone you trust to help you.

What happens after you tell us?

We will:

listen to you

help you be safe

tell you what will happen next

tell you what is happening when we can.

help keep children safe by checking and supporting the people who work with children and looking for things that could be unsafe.

Sometimes we may need to tell another person so they can help keep you or someone else safe.

We will explain this to you.
