Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) – Supporting Those Who Served

Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) – Supporting Those Who Served

We know that home is more than just four walls—it’s where memories are made, where you feel safe, and where you truly belong. Our veterans have given so much for us, and we believe they deserve the very best care to keep living comfortably and independently in the place they call home.

That’s where the Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) Program comes in. It’s designed to lend a helping hand with everyday tasks—whether that’s keeping the house tidy, assisting with personal care, or giving carers the chance to rest and recharge.

Most importantly, it’s about honouring and supporting those who have served by making sure they receive the care, dignity, and respect they deserve—right in the comfort of their own home.

What is the Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) Program?

Life can get a little more challenging as we age, but that doesn’t mean independence has to be lost. The VHC Program is designed to provide low-level home support services, helping veterans stay safe, comfortable, and connected in their own homes.

It also recognises the vital role of carers, offering respite options to provide them with a well-earned break. If more complex or high-level care is needed, the Community Nursing Program may be a better fit. Depending on which card you hold, you might also qualify for overnight care.

Who Can Access This Support?

You may be eligible for VHC services if you hold a:

Veteran Gold Card
Veteran White Card (for specific conditions or Non-Liability Health Care)

Not sure if you qualify? A quick assessment will help determine your eligibility and the type of support best suited to your needs.

What Support is Available?

The VHC Program offers practical, everyday assistance to make life at home easier:

Domestic Assistance – Keeping Your Home Comfortable

We provide support with light house cleaning, dishwashing, laundry, bed making, grocery shopping (unaccompanied, using your list), meal preparation, and paying bills (unaccompanied)

Personal Care – A Helping Hand for Daily Routines

Our team assists with bathing, showering, toileting, dressing, grooming, and eating to support daily personal care needs

Respite Care – Giving Carers a Break

We offer in-home respite, residential respite, and emergency short-term care to give carers a well-deserved break

Home and Garden Maintenance – Small Jobs, Big Difference

Help with light repairs, cleaning, and lawn care to maintain a safe and comfortable home

What Does It Cost?

Your Veteran Gold Card or Veteran White Card (for eligible conditions) covers VHC services based on your assessed clinical needs. However, some services may require a small co-payment, depending on the type of support you receive.

There is no co-payment for Respite Care services, and if you're experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible for a co-payment waiver (eligibility criteria apply).

For full details on costs and eligibility, please visit the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) website: Veterans’ Home Care Program.
