NDIS Changes from 1 July: Is It Time to Review Your Provider?

From 1 July, some changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are coming into effect to help strengthen participant safety and improve the quality of disability services.

One of the changes strengthens registration requirements for some NDIS providers and expands registration requirements for certain services over time, including Supported Independent Living (SIL). These reforms are designed to strengthen quality and participant safety through greater oversight by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

What does this mean for you?

For most participants, your current NDIS funding and supports won't change overnight. If you're happy with your current supports, you don't need to make any immediate changes.

However, the changes are a good opportunity to review your current provider and make sure you're receiving the support that's right for you.

Is your current provider the right fit?

The NDIS is designed to help you achieve your goals and live as independently as possible.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I feel listened to?

  • Do my support workers understand my goals and preferences?

  • Do I feel safe, respected and supported?

  • Am I receiving reliable, high-quality support?

  • Is my provider helping me build my independence?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, it may be worth exploring your options.

Thinking about changing providers?

Many people stay with the same provider because they believe changing providers will be difficult.

In many cases, switching providers is simpler than people expect.
