What is a Level 2 Home Care Package?
As we get older, certain daily tasks can become a little more challenging—but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your independence. A Level 2 Home Care Package provides regular support to help you stay in control of your life, while making everyday things like cleaning, personal care, transport, and meal preparation more manageable.
This package is ideal for people who are still active and independent but would feel more comfortable with a little extra support each week to stay safe, healthy, and socially connected.
This package provides more services and higher funding compared to Level 1 addressing both basic and slightly more complex care needs.

How to Access a Home Care Package Level 2 in Australia
Accessing a Home Care Package requires an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). Here are the steps to attain a home care package:

Assessment
Contact My Aged Care or your local provider to arrange an assessment by ACAT. This assessment will determine the level of care you require and your eligibility for a Home Care Package.

Approval
Once approved for a Level 2 package, you will receive a letter of approval outlining the level of care and the services you are eligible for.

Choosing a Provider
After receiving approval, you can choose a home care provider. Once you are approved Lumia Care’s team will conduct an in-depth assessment to understand your preferences and requirements, ensuring that the care plan meets your specific needs.
What support Can I Access in Home Care Package Level 2?
The primary difference between Level 1 and Level 2 Home Care Packages is the amount of funding and the range of services available. A Level 2 package provides a higher government subsidy, which allows for more comprehensive care and support services. Level 2 still provides all the basic support from Level 1, however offers more comprehensive care in certain aspects including:
✔ Advanced Health and Allied Health Services: Level 2 packages offer more comprehensive access to health and allied health services. This can include regular visits from nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other health professionals.
✔ Greater Access to Technology and Equipment: Level 2 packages provide more funding for assistive technology and equipment compared to Level 1 packages. The additional resources available in a Level 2 can improve the client’s ability to perform daily activities and remain safe at home.
✔ While both Level 1 and Level 2 packages include social support, Level 2 packages offer more opportunities for social interaction and community access. This can include more frequent companionship and emotional support or community activities.

How Much Funding is Available?
A Level 2 Home Care Package provides approximately $18,622 per year in government funding, allowing you to receive more regular support to help with household tasks, personal care, and getting out and about.

Understanding Home Care Package Costs
Figuring out Home Care Package costs doesn’t have to be complicated. The government covers most of the expenses, but depending on your income, you may be asked to contribute a small amount toward your care.
✔ Higher-income earners may need to pay an income-tested care fee.
✔ Some providers charge high fees, which means you could end up with fewer hours of care.
